Today's centenarians are increasingly tech-savvy, with growing numbers of the ederly using instant messages, ipods and the web, according to a survey by Everecare.

Among active americans who are 100 or older, 8% have sent a text message - an eight fold surge from just two years ago, the stydy said.

More than the one in 10 of the superseniors have watched a You-Tube video, and 12% have listened to music on an ipod or a similar MP3 player, triple the figure from 3 years ago.

Staying connected to a social group is vitally important in old age," said Dr. Mark Leenay a senoir vice president at United Healthcare, the insurance companythat offers Evercare health plans. " It's one of the most important things for them".

Indeed 82% of the 100 centenarians polled in the annual " snapshot survey' said they communicate with a friend or family member on a daily basis.

A total of 27% said they use some sort of newfangled, 21st century invention, such as Tivo, facebook or Wii Fit.

About 84,000 people in their 100's live in the U.S., according to census figures - more than 4,070 of them in New York State.

And as new gadgets permeate society, they're gradually being utililized by the eldest generation.

'They are increasingly using technology." Leenay said of the 100-plus set. " They are connecting to pop culture."

Centenarians are so current that the person most survey respondents - 57% - said they want to have dinner withwill host the next episode of " Saturday Night Live."

That would be actress Betty White, who, after an online campaign, is set to become the oldest person to ever host the show - and she's a mere 88 years old.

Three sisters, ages 92, 94 and 96, live in a house together. One night the 96 year-old draws a bath. She puts her foot in and pauses. She yells to the other sisters, "Was I getting in or out of the bath?"
The 94 year-old yells back, "I don't know. I'll come up and see." She starts up the stairs and pauses, "Was I going up the stairs or down?"
The 92 year-old shakes her head and says, "I sure hope I never get that forgetful, knock on wood." She then yells, "I'll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who's at the door.."

Al Veltri Speaks at LVE Italian American Club Meeting

It was an excellent meeting with lots of participation as President Isabel Cantlupe moderated.

The guest speaker was Albert S. Veltri, President & CEO of Veltri Realtors who gave an information-packed presentation on the real estate market. He specifically spoke about the local market in Leisure Village East as well as the regional market outside the community.

There was a lively questions and answer period where Mr. Veltri answered all the residents questions. He also drew a laugh from the crowd with some questions of his own...

'Who decided that a round pizza be put in a square box?"
"We put in our two cents, but only get a penny for our thoughts. Who gets the other penny?"
and
When you get to heaven, are you stuck for eternity wearing the same clothes you were buried in?"

After the presentation, President Cantlupe presented Mr. Veltri with an honorary membership in the club and enjoyed the pizza provided by Veltri & Associates, Realtors.

Since the weather is warmer the activity in Veltri & Associates, Realtors has pick up. Buyers' are out looking for a new home.
